When suffering from some type of pain, the cause of the pain or the source may not always be easily identifiable, and you may not know what is triggering the problem. Chronic pains such as migraine headaches, back pains, or joint pain can be very agonizing, and when it becomes unbearable you want to get to the bottom of it. Most chronic pain can be managed with the assistance of a physician, and also by changing some of your habits and activities in your everyday life. When most people have pain, they reach for different over the counter pain medications.

Although pain pills may give us some temporary relief, there are actually other methods that can be practiced that include oral medications. Talking yourself out of the pain and trying not to focus on it can actually give you the relief you’re searching for. Other options are biofeedback, going through relaxation training, and also behavioral training as well. When you are relaxed mentally the body is able to unwind, taking pressure and tension off of joints and muscles, and providing relief. When pain flares up it will typically last a few days to a week, and if the pain goes on longer than that go to a physician.

A very common myth is that pain and aching is a sign of aging. If you are suffering from a lot of aches and pains this isn’t normal, and you should make an appointment to see your doctor. Although you are more prone to injuries as you get older, and pains, it isn’t common to hurt on a daily basis. You don’t have to live with the pain that you feel every day, and accept that it is getting worse. Instead you need to do something about it.

You are the only person who can decide how bad your pain is, and if your doctor is unable to pinpoint a cause of the pain, different nonprescription medications and some mental relaxation treatments can help you relieve it. Whether you cut your finger or you have a splitting headache you are going to be in pain, and you want the pain to be relieved as soon as possible. Preventing pain by stretching and with relaxation techniques is possible, and you will want to try these methods before taking prescription drugs. Although medication can provide temporary relief, you can’t take them for long periods of time and they will eventually become ineffective.

For women who suffer from very heavy and uncomfortable periods, there is actually a condition called menorrhagia that may be causing them. Over 10 million different women who live in the United States have this condition, and there are things that you can do to help treat it and to deal with the pain.

The term menorrhagia is used by health professionals to describe a period that last for a long time, and that the flow is very heavy. A normal period for a woman last about 4-7 days, and during this time the average women loses a couple tablespoons of blood. For someone who has menorrhagia the period is a lot longer, and they can lose double that amount. There are many signs and symptoms of this condition that are easy for you to spot, that you have thought where a normal part of having a period.

Having to change your tampon or pad frequently and through the night is a very common symptom, along with having so much blood flow that you need to double up on the different products you are using. An example of this would be using a tampon and a maxi pad at the same time. When you are changing your product and you notice that there are large blood clots in your flow, this is another sign of the condition. You may also notice that you are fatigued often, and this is because you are becoming anemic.

There are many things that can cause menorrhagia. Hormonal imbalances, reproductive system diseases, implantable birth control devices, kidney disease, liver disease, thyroid disease, complications during pregnancy, and also having a blood disorder are all causes. Each person is different and you will want to speak with a doctor about your options, and about the different causes that you may be suffering from.

The treatments for menorrhagia are different in each person, and some will try hormone therapy or ablation. Some of the treatment options are surgical or minimally abrasive, and some women will just take an over the counter pain medication to relive symptoms. If you are suffering from menorrhagia and it is affecting your everyday life, you will want to make an appointment to see your physician right away. This could be an issue caused by a much larger problem, and you want to get to the bottom of it so that you can get relief right away.

Stress is a daily event for most people. There are hundreds of different things that could occur in any given day that would lead to a stress response from the body, and that can take a toll over time. Getting rid of stress is about finding ways to deal with it and learning new behaviors. Left untreated, stress can lead to heart disease, hypertension, headaches, pain, and weakened immune systems. High stress can also produce anxiety, fatigue, depression, and smoking or drinking habits that weren’t there before.

10 Tips for Kicking Stress Out of Your Life

the wins. Too often, people don’t appreciate the victories in their lives. If you take time to rejoice in the goals that you achieve or the projects that you complete, you will feel better about yourself.

While most men don’t consider this very ‘manly’, spending 10-15 minutes of quiet time alone every day will help you get the most from your life and avoid stress.

the cause. If you get rid of the reason, you will get rid of the stress. This is sometimes easier said than done, though.

often. Your body needs exercise. Plus, you can alleviate a lot of stress if you are able to work out and shed some extra weight while you’re at it.

situations that induce stress. If you know that dinner with your boss is going to be too stressful, don’t go. If your job depends on it, make an appearance. However, when there is something that you can avoid to help reduce stress, you should. Choose to go to the store at a different time so that you don’t have to fight the crowd, for example.

things that are unchanging. If you can’t change something, stressing about it is a waste of energy. Learn to accept it and move on, and try to focus on the better things in your life.

an optimist. Today, almost everyone is thinking about the negative of everything. If you change your attitude, you can often change the way you feel about stress.

good eating and sleeping habits. Get enough sleep, eat healthy, and avoid foods that aren’t good for you.

take on more than you are capable of. You don’t have to be everywhere at once. Give yourself one task at a time and don’t worry about trying to make everyone happy. Do what you can because that is enough.

and organize. If you have a plan and stick to it, you will be able to complete tasks with less stress than if you had 10 things going at once.

The outlook that you have on life is going to affect the way that your body deals with stress to a great degree. If you want to get the most from your health, you need to get rid of stress for good. Use these tips to get more from your life and eliminate stress so that you can enjoy your life once again.

It can be very hard to detect early signs of ovarian cancer, especially since there have been no successful findings when trying to screen for it. You cannot feel the ovaries with your hands or see them with the eye, and although you normally get a yearly check up from a gynecologist, they can’t always detect it either. This is why ovarian cancer is usually to a very advanced stage by the time it is actually diagnosed, and at the point the chances of removal and survival are also decreased as well. Recognizing the symptoms may be able to save your life.

Someone who has abnormal vaginal bleeding for long periods of time, and abdominal pain is feeling symptoms of ovarian cancer. Others include a bloating feeling in the abdomen, or feeling full quickly while eating or drinking. Weight loss, back pain, nausea, fatigue, constipation, pain during intercourse, and diarrhea are some others. Many of these symptoms are common with many other illnesses and conditions, so it can be hard to decide when you may have ovarian cancer, or if you are suffering from something else less serious like irritable bowel syndrome. When you begin having any of these symptoms, and it is not normal for you, then you need to call a doctor.

When you are having any of these problems be sure to talk with your physician right away to get in for an appointment. Although they will feel around and do an exam most ovarian cancer tumors are difficult to feel with the hands. When the doctor believes that you may in fact have the cancer you will be sent to get some blood work done, and an ultrasound may also be ordered to look closer at the ovaries and to see what is going on.

If your doctor ignores your symptoms and they continue, you are going to want to get a second opinion right away. Blood tests are not always accurate for testing, and researchers are still trying to come up with new ways to test for ovarian cancer. If you have a family history of breast cancer or ovarian cancer, you are more likely to get it, and you want to be sure that you take any of the symptoms that you have seriously. Ovarian cancer can be a silent killer that you never see coming, so be conscious about your body to avoid becoming a victim.

The number one killer of women in America each year is heart disease, and that is why it is so important to recognize the symptoms, and to take preventative action. One third of the deaths each year are from this disease, and that is more than ovarian, cervical, and breast cancer combined. You must know how to detect cardiac arrest, and if you can it may save your life. Unfortunately not all of the signs are very uncommon for everyday life, and that is why it may be hard for doctors or patients to pick up on the problems.

Fatigue is a very common cause of heart disease, and one study shows that over 70% of women who have this disease suffered from this symptom a few days or a few weeks before they had encountered a heart attack. Unusual fatigue should be noticed and you should consult a doctor. Having troubles sleeping is another common issue that women have when they are at risk or before they suffer from a heart attack. When the sleeping patterns become very irregular and they are affecting your life you should make an appointment and be seen.

Experiencing shortness of breath or having a hard time breathing when you are doing normal tasks throughout the day is also a factor that may mean you are heading for a heart attack or congestive heart failure. Along with this are indigestion, and a lot of anxiety. Any of these different symptoms are reasons to get checked out by a doctor. You don’t want to wait until it is too late to be looked at, and until you are already going into cardiac arrest or having a heart attack. Monitoring the issue is going to be one of the best preventative steps that you can take.

There are many different things that you can do to prevent heart disease, and to life a healthier life. Eating a healthy well balanced diet that is low on sodium and sugar is important, along with getting cardiovascular exercise a few days a week. As you get older you are going to want to watch your health more closely, and be sure that you are doing everything necessary to monitor your health accurately. Go in for a yearly physical and talk with your physician about any issues you may have so that you can live a long healthy life and so you aren’t the next statistic.

Few decisions can be as painful and difficult as deciding to place your loved one in a nursing home or assisted living facility. The elderly person will likely be resistant to the idea and hate their loss of a car, their home, and their independence while you may feel guilt and sadness for having to take such a step. In most cases, your older loved one is most likely in a better living situation. Nevertheless, we can’t help but worry about our loved ones and the quality of care that they are receiving in the nursing home. While you can’t do it all, there are some things that you can do that may improve the nursing home care that your loved one receives.

First, be sure that you communicate with the nursing home staff. Explain all of your loved one’s needs, limitations, attitudes, and personality. By letting them know all that you can about your loved one, you make it more possible for them to provide better care. Get to know the caregivers who work with your loved one, too, and don’t hesitate to let them know anything that may be going on with your loved one. If your loved one feels sick, be sure to pass along the information to one of their nurses so that the problem can be dealt with. And if any questions or concerns come up, don’t hesitate to ask about them.

Try to find social activities within the facility that your loved one can participate in. Most facilities offer a variety of different activities and social gatherings that can help improve your loved one’s outlook on their nursing home stay and to help them stay happy. If you notice emotional distress in your loved one, you may want to schedule a counseling session to help determine the problem. Growing old can be difficult, and life in a nursing home can make it even more so. It is important that you don’t overlook the emotional and mental well being of your loved ones while they are being cared for. Quality nursing home care goes well beyond physical health.

And be sure that your loved one sees their regular physician on a normal basis. Checkups are needed regularly, and the physician will report any concerns or results to the workers in your loved one’s nursing home. Any changes in medical care or medications will be taken accordingly, ensuring that your loved one receives the best quality nursing home care possible. Regular visits from you and other loved ones is important as well, so that your loved one doesn’t feel as though they have been abandoned. Nursing homes are facilities that nobody really wants to find themselves in. But following these tips will help improve the quality of care that your loved one receives.

Researchers in Europe have discovered that men who take hormone-blocking medications after they have gone through radiation treatments should do so for longer than 6 months. The 6 month period is what is normally assigned to patients. Subjects that took the medications for at least two years were much better off than those who didn’t in the study. Those results were also mimicked in an American study that was conducted, and some researchers believe that the hormone therapy applied for longer periods of time should be a standard method of care in all patients suffering from prostate cancer.

These successful results have been recognized in men whose cancer has grown, but it has not spread from the prostate gland to other areas of the body. This would be approximately 25% of prostate cancer cases that are documented. Other beneficial features for men on longer treatments who were living cancer free was that they had less continued growth of cancer in the prostate gland, and also fewer cases of the cancer spreading to other parts of the body. The survival rate had also increase by almost 10%. The survival rate was slightly higher in the American trial, most likely because diagnoses and treatment are faster in the United States because of the screening tests that are easily available.

There are different side effects that men will experience while undergoing the hormone treatments, such as hot-flashes, loss of sexual function, osteoporosis, and also weight gain. Some men get these different side effects from the treatments and some men don’t, each person and case is different. Regardless of the evidence or claims from the different studies that have been documented Dr. Peter C. Albertsen who is the chairman of urology at the University of Connecticut Health Center believes that the side effects from the long hormone treatments is reason why this form of treatment should be avoided in patients with prostate cancer .

Although this medical breakthrough has increased the life of some patients with prostate cancers in both the European and American trials, and is a very beneficial gain in research and development, there are still those who are skeptical. With longer hormone treatments through medications after radiation researchers have discovered many benefits to for the prostate cancer patients, but along with those benefits come the different side effects that they may or may not experience. Only time will tell how medical experts move forward with these results.

Diabetes is a serious health condition that affects millions of people across the world. The body fails to create proper levels of insulin and the sugar levels in the bloodstream can rise to dangerous heights or plummet to fatal lows. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the condition and over sixteen million Americans suffer from the problem, accounting for ninety percent of all diabetes cases in the nation. What is perhaps most distressing about diabetes is that in almost ninety one percent of all cases the condition could be prevented entirely by following a few simple steps.

So how can you go about preventing type 2 diabetes? Start with diet and exercise. Over sixty percent of diabetes cases are attributed to weight problems or obesity. Every pound you shed brings you a step closer to preventing type 2 diabetes. And exercise can play a tremendous part in preventing it, with seven hours a week of exercise lowering your chances of developing diabetes by twenty nine percent. Combine regular exercise with a low fat diet and you’ll not only help prevent diabetes but also get in better shape all around, lowering cholesterol and blood pressure and giving yourself more energy in the process.

Your lifestyle also plays a part in preventing type 2 diabetes, and the best step you can take initially is to quit smoking. Combining that with cutting back on your alcohol intake will go a long way towards reducing your chances of developing diabetes. Try a bit of pepper on your foods, too. The capsaicin found in pepper helps to lower blood sugar and increase insulin levels in the body naturally. And while it can pose other health risks like intestinal bleeding, doses of aspirin can help to prevent diabetes as well. By cutting back on your alcohol, throwing away your cigarettes, and making strides towards a better diet and more exercise, you can likely prevent diabetes from claiming you as a victim.

There are countless diseases that are beyond our control. Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other conditions can affect us without warning. But in the case of type 2 diabetes, a few simple steps can be taken to ensure that you do not become one of the millions suffering from the problem. Why invite a disease into your body when you can prevent it so easily? It’s easier than you think to prevent type 2 diabetes, and you’ll experience other health benefits along the way. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to take control today and ensure that you don’t develop diabetes.

Surgery is a very common practice in American medicine these days. From minor outpatient surgery such as an endoscopy to major procedures such as heart bypass surgery, surgical procedures take place every day. While it is up to the surgeon to ensure that the operation goes according to plan, there are steps that you as a patient can take before and after the surgery to help guarantee that everything goes as smooth as possible. Following a few easy tips can help lead to a quicker recovery and a higher chance of surgical success.

Preparing for recovery after surgery really begins in the days leading up to your surgery. The first step you should take is to keep a positive outlook on the surgery. Try to alleviate your stress and fears before you show up for the procedure. Research what to expect, too. Knowing what will be awaiting you after surgery will help you be mentally prepared for it when the time comes. Physical therapy, recovery times, limited activities – all of these are things to know before you have the procedure. If you’re overweight, shedding a few pounds will help speed up your recovery after surgery as well.

Once the procedure is complete, recovery after surgery truly starts. Always remember to communicate with your caregivers and loved ones. Ask any questions you might have and don’t hesitate to ask for assistance if you need it. Overexerting yourself is never good after surgery. Be sure to follow a healthy diet in the days and weeks following your surgery. This is a good idea all of the time, but after a surgical procedure it is even more important. And while you’ll need to follow any physical therapy programs that are in place for you, don’t overdo it. Get plenty of rest and your body will heal much quicker than it would otherwise.

Get comfortable. If you’ve undergone a major surgery, you don’t need to struggle to accomplish things. Keep the phone and television remote within reach, along with plenty of healthy snacks, pillows, books, and anything else you may need. Don’t feel ashamed, especially if you need help or special accommodations. Your health is the most important thing to keep in mind during recovery after surgery, and everyone around you understands that your needs and comfort are a top priority. Surgery can be a scary thing, and recovery after surgery can be hard work. Planning for it properly beforehand can pay off tremendously when your recovery begins.

Researches in Canada believe they have found the cause of a deadly type of ovarian cancer that is associated with rare granulosa cell tumors. This new discovery may be able to help researchers cure and treat this cancer. The genetic components of the tumor include approximately 3 billion nucleotide pairs. One mutation out of these many pairs causes the cancer, and one mutation is found in each rare granulosa cell tumor. This recent development was found using the latest gene-sequencing information and technology. Scientists also have hopes that this will create new further development in the ability to detect and identify genetic mutations in patients.

By being able to target the exact mutation in women suffering, this may assist in discovering new methods of treatments that are needed desperately. DNA sequencing machines are now able to decode as many as billions of different nucleotides at very fast paces, and the latest computer software developments are able to compose the information and data rapidly. Before these developments the process was long and tedious. Now that scientists are able to identify the mutated gene easily with these advancements, they are able to concentrate more on treatments and cures for ovarian cancer, instead of searching for the mutations.

Not only are scientists going to be able to work towards finding cures and lifesaving treatments more easily, but they are also going to be able to do it much more quickly. Almost all different kinds of cancers and especially ovarian cancer have a lot of different genetic abnormalities that can be found. With this form of ovarian cancer every single patient was found to have this type of single gene mutation. These results where validated by scientists by taking samples from patients all over different regions of the world.

The latest gene-sequencing advancements are going to change the world and the way scientific research is performed, opening new opportunities for discovery. Patients who have not only ovarian cancer, but other cancers as well are going to be diagnosed faster, and they will have more hope for life saving treatments and cures. This is a large step for the medical world, scientists, researchers, and for technology. Hopefully scientists can find a cure for genetic mutations in all patients with different types of cancer, especially the genetic mutation in the deadly granulosa cell tumors that is claiming the lives of women who have ovarian cancer every year.
