Staying Healthy and Fit During Pregnancy – Exercising While You’re Expecting

Pregnancy represents a new stage in your life. It may feel like an exciting journey you’re about to embark on, but it will probably also seem a little overwhelming. You may be unsure as to how you’re going to fit your pregnancy into your work, family, and financial obligations while still maintaining a healthy, low-stress lifestyle. The most important lesson is that fitness and exercise do not become less important during pregnancy. In fact, it’s often the best way to stay energized and motivated. Staying healthy and fit during pregnancy will leave you far better equipped to cope with the challenges that these months bring, and it’s healthier for your growing baby as well.

Staying Healthy and Fit During PregnancyExercise has important physical and physiological benefits. It not only keeps you fit and healthy, it can actually make you feel happier. This is because exercise stimulates your body’s production of endorphins. Endorphins will give you more energy and focus to deal with your daily tasks. Not only that, but your positive mood will actually have tangible health benefits for your growing baby. Not only that, but being in good shape will make your pregnancy easier on you, and make your delivery go more smoothly. You’ll also recover from the delivery more easily, and your likelihood of postpartum depression will be greatly decreased.

So how do you manage staying healthy and fit during pregnancy? Pregnancy is a sensitive time for both your body and your baby’s, so you should always consult with a physician. These general tips will provide a good start, however. Find a form of exercise you enjoy doing, so that you’re more likely to stick to it. Don’t overexert yourself. Light exercise is more than enough when you’re pregnant. Be sure to wear comfortable maternity clothing while you’re working out.

Remember that staying healthy and staying happy go hand in hand. Find a friend to exercise with, and make sure you always enjoy what you’re doing. Staying inside and minimizing your movement will lead to depression and boredom, and these can have real effects on your baby. Even a simple walk in the sunshine can be a great mood booster, and when you’re consistently happy, your body responds by working more efficiently and getting in shape. And when you’re pregnant, that goes for both of you.
