We all have an idea in our minds of someone that we consider the healthiest person of our acquaintance. This person probably eats right and exercises regularly. They don’t have any bad health habits. They are trim and fit, and they always have plenty of energy. We may look upon them with envy, thinking that we can never get ourselves together enough to be like them. But the truth is that living a healthy lifestyle starts with painting a healthy lifestyle picture in our minds so that we know what to pursue. The first step is simply to have a goal to pursue.

They say that you are what you eat, so it’s a good idea to look at your diet and see how you can improve it. If you start with small changes, such as buying skim milk instead of whole milk, then you’ll be surprised to find that eating right isn’t as difficult as you thought, especially if you are careful only to buy healthful foods. Before you know it, the painting in your mind of a healthy diet can become a reality.

Exercise is also an integral part of painting a healthy lifestyle for yourself. Exercise is important, and many people don’t know where to begin. It’s a good idea to start off light; just set aside thirty minutes or so a day to take a brisk walk around the neighborhood. If you have a dog, you can start by taking him on longer walks, or by walking him more frequently. You can sign up for a class and learn how to properly lift weights or do yoga. These are all great ways to get more exercise.

Painting a healthy lifestyle is not just about adding good habits, but also about eliminating bad ones. You should quit smoking. You should stop snacking in between meals. You should stop staying up all night, and get to bed at a decent hour. You should stop drinking too much on the weekends. By eliminating these bad habits, you’ll see even better results from the good habits that you’re adding to your newly-created healthy lifestyle. And you’ll not only look better, but you’ll feel much better as well. Living a healthy lifestyle can give you a lot more energy than you ever thought possible.

You may think that painting a healthy lifestyle for yourself is an exercise in futility, but you may be surprised at how motivated you can be when you see a goal that you really want to pursue. If you aimlessly decide that you think you should live a healthier lifestyle, it’s no wonder that you’ve failed. You have to have a specific goal in mind, and you have to work towards a specific goal so that you have something to work towards. After all, if you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.
